Meeting Needs to fund vaccinations for 100 Cambodian orphans

Events industry charity Meetings Industry Meeting Needs (MIMN) is to fund a vaccination programme for children at The Center for Children's Happiness (CCH) in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.  The vaccinations, costing £6200, will provide vaccinations for 100 children against illnesses including DTP, Hepatitus A and B, polio, MMR and typhoid.

MIMN was approached by Kate Conway, Group Communications & Events Manager at Tesco Stores, on behalf of the orphanage which provides a home and education to Cambodian children. She had raised funds for the project. The children are either orphans or belong to parents who cannot take care of them due to illness, disability, or poverty. Most of the children previously worked as garbage pickers at the Steung Mean Chey landfill in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Kate is pictured in the sewing room with a young Cambodian girl who has been rescued from the dump and now lives at the Center for Children's Happiness. Her education will help her to break the cycle that her family are in. All children learn how to speak English and all girls learn how to sew - both key skills that should help them to gain employment.

Kate said: "I just wanted to thank you and the committee of MIMN for your kind funding of the vaccines programme at the Center for Children's Happiness in Phnom Penh.  It's wonderful news and it will truly bring the children into line with other, more advantaged kids in the city."

MIMN treasurer Charles Blowfield said: "This is a fantastic project that provides life-changing support for these youngsters and we are indebted to Kate for approaching us."
